The Monty V2 obviously refers to the UK in the sixties, with a wavy slanted sole and a top that looks like a moccasin. Alpinestars put that in a modern (motorcycle) jacket with durable cowhide and a load of impact protection.
It turns the Monty V2 into a true motoring shoe, something you wouldn’t expect from the sight of it. The laces are actual laces and although ankle-high, the Monty V2-motorcycle shoe does not reach halfway your calf. They look just a tad more like regular shoes than they do motoring shoes. The opposite is true.
The cowhide forms the integral construction. Simple as that. About 1.5mm thick overall and the best warranty for a timeless appearance. It also makes up the structure and the relative stiffness of the shoe; together with the sole that ensures a stable, thin but strong line.
The ankle hides a number of protectors. Toe and heel are firm, as you can feel, but the Monty V2 is not a shoe you wear to grind the curbs. The CE-certification level 1 is more than sufficient to turn the Monty V2 into a safe, comfortable, flexible, easy, smooth, stylish, strong motorcycle shoe. And lots of that.
We wouldn’t expect waterproofness ourselves, from ankle-high, laced-up motoring shoes. The leather construction will definitely be a decent buffer but the chances of water splashing up to your legs and finding its way in to your toes, are substantial.
The higher the fashion level - and the level of ‘we don’t really look like motorcycle shoes’ -, the smaller the chance your leather shoes have a full-fledged shifting reinforcement. No problem on a scooter but on a motorbike, the multitude of shifting will quickly cause wear and tear. A shame of the leather shoes because this “wear and tear” will not often be incorporated in the warranty conditions.
You’d better take precautions, give yourself a hand or a foot in this case and add an extra layer to your leather motorcycle shoe or your gear lever. There are a number of options available in our range.
