Description

The spark plug plays an essential role in every petrol engine. It is responsible for the ignition of the air-fuel mixture. The nature of this ignition plays a major part in the way the engine runs, enabling or limiting smooth running, powerful performance, engine efficiency, and the quality of its emissions.

If you consider that a spark plug may ignite well over 3,500 times per minute, it becomes clear how much modern spark plug technology contributes to meeting modern fuel consumption and pollution standards. Replacing your spark plugs in time benefits your engine's performance, but may also benefit the environment.

Besides standard spark plugs, iridium spark plugs are also available as an upgrade.
Iridium spark plugs from NGK are currently the most technically advanced solution. They come with a laser-welded iridium alloy tip on the central electrode.
Iridium is a precious metal and one of the hardest metals known to man. It has a melting point of 2450 °C and is highly resistant to spark erosion. By using this metal the spark plug service life can be doubled in comparison to standard spark plugs.
In addition, the precious metal allows the central electrode to be significantly thinner with a width of only 0.6 mm. This reduced width significantly lowers the required ignition voltage and contributes to an improved expansion of the flame front in the combustion chamber.
Iridium spark plugs generate a self-cleaning effect. Regardless of the operating temperature, electrical discharges take place in the ring gap between the central electrode and the insulator. These remove any soot particles, ensuring that the ignition voltage is not diverted.

The correct tightening torque is essential when fitting a new spark plug. Find the correct torque for your spark plug here.

Please note: Spark plugs are always sold individually.
