The Alpinestars Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 is Alpinestars’ lightest autonomous airbag motorcycle jacket, specifically designed for women and developed for road use. This ladies’ version is ergonomically optimised with a female silhouette and a tailored fit for extra comfort.

This airbag system can be worn both over and under your regular motorcycle clothing, which is striking in itself. The biggest change compared with the first version is that you can now replace the argon canister yourself up to six times without needing an official service.

An airbag motorcycle jacket is a safe, practical choice and an excellent option for touring riders, commuters, city riders and even light offroad and adventure riders.

The Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 contains six integrated sensors (three accelerometers and three gyroscopes) that autonomously decide when intervention is required. Virtually every moving and stationary situation is monitored. The system draws on data from millions of motorcycle riding kilometres and thousands of crashes that feed its smart AI technology. The Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 determines for itself when deployment is needed, recognising low-siders, high-siders and other dangerous situations. Once the system judges that a crash is taking place, the airbag inflates in 50 milliseconds.

In the event of a direct impact between the motorcycle and another vehicle or obstacle, the Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 system is designed to be effective before the actual impact occurs. This ‘first impact’ protocol has been tested between 25 and 63 km/h. Every situation is different, of course, but it illustrates how far removed this system is from the early generations of motorcycle airbag systems.

The Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 Airbag System is automatically activated via the magnetic zip. The diagonal zip provides full chest coverage while the internal airbag remains hidden. Putting it on and closing the zip is all it takes. The design also makes it easy to stow in a backpack or under the seat of your motorcycle when not in use. An LED display on the chest shows the operational status of the airbag. The display vibrates when the system is switched on and also warns you in the same way when the battery is running low.

With a water‑resistant chassis and waterproof ECU and electronics, this slim, stand‑alone airbag system can be worn both under and over a motorcycle jacket. Choose an Alpinestars ‘Tech-Air Ready’ motorcycle jacket, or any leather or textile motorcycle jacket, as long as it offers sufficient room to accommodate the inflated airbag.

You are free to move as you like, and the Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 Airbag System is smart enough to tell the difference between a real crash and simply tripping over your own feet. Even so, it is a good habit to open the zip and magnetic closure after getting off the bike to switch the airbag off. Better that than having it trigger because you stumbled over a doorstep.

Updates, algorithm refinements and possible new configurations are handled via a Bluetooth (BLE 5.0) connection with the Tech-Air app. This allows you to monitor system status, switch between modes, track your rides via MyRide and receive notifications of new updates. The system is charged via USB. The integrated, certified lithium‑ion battery lasts up to 40 hours and takes around 4 hours to recharge. The ECU is tested and CE‑certified and operates between -20°C and +40°C. The vest is washable.

Maintenance and reuse

After an airbag deployment you can now assess yourself whether the system has been damaged. You replace the argon canister on your own, up to six times if you wish, provided the airbag’s integrity has not been compromised during a crash. After that, a full service at an authorised Alpinestars Tech-Air Service Center is required. For further follow‑up you are always welcome in a RAD store.

Important: due to regulations governing the transport of dangerous goods by air (IATA) and by road (ADR), you are not allowed to ship Tech-Air products yourself for return or servicing. You must deliver the product in person to a Tech-Air Hub or RAD store.

The Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 is a fully autonomous active airbag system that does not require any external connections or sensors on the motorcycle. The system is certified as Category II CE according to (EU) 2016/425 EEC Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Regulation, in line with EN1621‑4:2013 airbag certification. Impact absorption is Level 2 for both full chest and full back. As an outer garment it meets EN 17092‑6 Class C.

The Stella Tech-Air 3 V2 system is an active protection and safety system, suitable for adult women from 18 years upwards. It is essential to read and fully understand the user manual before putting the system into service.
