A hoodie as motorcycle gear
The MODEKA Jamey looks like an ordinary hoodie. It wears like one, feels like one and, if it could speak, would probably sound like one too. But it is very much proper motorcycle clothing. Anyone who does not (always) want to ride in something that is clearly a motorcycle jacket, but still does not want to compromise on protection, will find the Jamey to be a convincing alternative. From a little distance it looks like just another fleece hoodie; up close, you realise this is AA-certified motorcycle gear.
Who is the Jamey motorcycle hoodie for?
The Jamey is for the motorcycle rider or scooter rider who is on the road every day and does not want to make too many adjustments for that. With the Jamey, you can also simply stroll around once the two wheels are out of the picture. Still, do not get it wrong: even anyone heading out on a longer ride on a nice day, and who would rather not put on a full motorcycle outfit, will find what they need here. The MODEKA Jamey is not waterproof and does not have a membrane: when it rains, you switch to an extra rain jacket, or to a motorcycle jacket that is less casual.
Material and protection
The outer fabric of the Jamey is a cotton and polyester blend with a fleece character. Think: cosy. Kevlar reinforcements (DuPont KEVLAR) are placed on the shoulders, elbows and back. That combination of a familiar fleece feel with hard-wearing aramid fibre creates a motorcycle jacket that feels as expected, but performs and protects far better in a fall than an ordinary hoodie ever could.
The shoulder and elbow protectors are MODEKA’s Flying Bats type: ultra-flat, flexible and CE-certified to level 2. That is unusual for a motorcycle hoodie: level 2 is normally found in sportier or more expensive motorcycle jackets.
A back protector is optional. The Jamey is compatible with the SAS-TEC SC-1/FB2-M or the SCL-M/L 19.
Fit and finish
The Jamey has elastic cuffs at the wrists and knitted ribbing at the waist and cuffs. Visually, it is completely a hoodie. There are two zipped outer pockets and one inner pocket. This motorcycle jacket has no connection zip and no adjustable waist. It is meant to be worn with motorcycle jeans. The AA certification (EN 17092-3:2020) confirms that the Jamey is serious motorcycle clothing despite its casual appearance.
The opinion of our RAD specialist
The Jamey solves a real problem: not everyone wants to put on a full motorcycle outfit for every ride, and not everyone wants or can look like a motorcyclist after the ride. Sometimes the motorcycle is only the means of transportation, and you want comfort and practicality at the office, at work or at your destination. With a one-piece race suit, that is harder than it is when you wear a hoodie like this. The fact that this hoodie is AA-certified and includes level 2 protectors is, of course, a major advantage. Add a back protector and you have a daily-use motorcycle jacket that nobody recognises as a motorcycle jacket. Because why not. And because it is safer than a hoodie that offers no protection at all.
