This brake or clutch lever lock from Oxford combines a clear, visible deterrent with a deafening alarm. At 120 dB you come close to a police siren. Bad for the eardrums of anyone tampering with your motorcycle, and good for your peace of mind.
The bright yellow housing is hard to miss. You clamp the lock onto your front brake lever and lock it with the key. The hardened steel pin is a sturdy one and the design of this lock largely conceals the locking mechanism too. As soon as you close the brake lock with the key you arm the alarm.
One beep: the alarm is armed. Five warning tones emphasise that the triaxial motion and shock sensors register that something or someone is attempting to move your motorcycle or force the lock. If the attempt continues, the alarm goes off. If nothing more is registered for 15 seconds, the brake lock alarm goes back into standby, ready to serve the next potential thief.
There is also a trick to handle it all more discreetly while still retaining the lock function, without activating the alarm. The QR code on the packaging leads to the manual, although it is just as simple to try it a few times. We’ll give you a hint: it has to do with the number of times you lock and unlock. Two beeps: the alarm is disabled.
A brake lever lock like this has a few advantages: you cannot forget it (it is on your brake or clutch) because it is bright yellow in colour. It is visible to everyone with bad intentions, because it is – indeed – yellow in colour, and thus acts as a deterrent. It also remains relatively light (472 grams), especially if you put it on the scales next to a disc lock, although it is somewhat larger in size. A storage pouch is not included.
This brake lever lock fits handlebars and grips with a diameter up to 35 mm, which covers virtually every motorcycle or scooter. The housing is waterproof (IP67) and made of Zamac alloy. The key cylinder is stainless steel. The alarm signal runs on a replaceable CR2 lithium battery (included).
