REV’IT! recently gave its entire motorcycle jeans range a thorough update, and that continues to deliver strong results and worthy successors. The Detroit 3 Tapered receives a key material upgrade compared to its predecessor: the new hyperstretch textile offers even more comfort and freedom of movement.
The tapered fit used here is recognisable by the trouser legs narrowing towards the bottom. This matters if you plan to wear motorcycle boots underneath, as that can sometimes be tricky with a tapered fit. At the same time, you still have plenty of room and freedom of movement above the knee. The hyperstretch material helps a lot in this respect, delivering a sharp look without sacrificing comfort.
Note the details that have been kept. The colour of the rivet and the REV’IT! logo on the inside of the main button still indicates the CE certification of this motorcycle jeans. Red means Class AAA (the same class as leather), blue indicates AA and black stands for Class A, which is stilly pretty safe. For anyone not fully versed in this: these are still motorcycle jeans, not motorcycle race suits. Even so, a certified Class A is always better than a regular pair of jeans, and you can estimate the wear‑resistance of Class AAA at roughly double that. An AA rating, like on these Detroit 3 Tapered jeans, logically sits somewhere in between.
The height‑adjustable knee protector is a SEESMART CE Level 1 unit: slim and sleek, pre‑shaped and ventilated. In these close‑fitting motorcycle jeans, the gentle curve is a clear advantage. From AA class upwards, hip protectors are standard, and here they are also SEESMART. In practice this means flexible, ventilated and tight. Because this is an AA‑rated model, you can also count on an extra layer of material at hips and knees in the form of PWR|Shield. While the drive towards single‑layer denim is strong, the stretch Cordura denim still gets reinforcement where it is needed.
The pockets – the familiar five from regular jeans – are reinforced at the edges. That is not about impact protection, but about giving the Detroit 3 Tapered a longer service life. REV’IT! found that fraying edges more often turned out to be the weak point than actual slides. Triple‑stitched safety seams address that.
REV’IT! uses a laser‑washing process which, besides excellent visual results, has the advantage of not causing premature wear to the denim. That denim comes in different colours and finishes, and tastes will differ there. The Detroit 3 Tapered is available in several washes and no fewer than four (!) leg lengths. Ideal for the stretchy, lightly worn‑in look of a solid, hard‑wearing pair of motorcycle jeans.
The reflective strip that only becomes visible when you turn up the hem of the trouser leg has been a favourite feature for quite some time.
By using the Safeway 3 belt, these motorcycle jeans can be zipped to your favourite REV’IT! motorcycle jacket.
