The intention is clear: get as much top technology as possible in a minimalistic motorcycle jacket, allowing you to ride from the North Cape to the Equator. And back. Or even further. You can postpone the choice until you get there. With the Ridge GTX, anything is possible.
At least when it comes to motorcycling. This jacket is not quite capable of frying an egg in a pan. But we wouldn't be surprised to see the Ridge GTX in the kitchen one day. ‘Top-level touring' and 'High-end-technology'. Or 'unique', and 'every conceivable functionality'. They're all snippets taken from the catalogue description. Without making any effort.
We have to say it like it is: in this navy-blue version, the Ridge GTX is a piece of ART. They think so at REV'IT! too, because every motorcycle jacket is numbered. On the shoulder you can see which of the 500 pieces you own. Limited edition. To frame. And to hang on the living room wall. Behind the Panigale V2 that we were finally allowed to park there after endless asking.
Although that is a shame. The Ridge GTX is a laminated motorcycle jacket with an outer shell of 3L GORE-TEX and 2L nylon (400D). Wear-resistance and the world's best waterproofing in one light, comfortable layer. And that's it. What? Well, there's no need for a membrane, and REV'IT! leaves it up to the user to add a thermal lining. Anyway, instead of focusing on what's not there, we'd like to emphasize what is: top-of-the-line technology with two sleeves and a central zipper, elevated to an art form.
About the central zipper: it immediately hides the main ventilation channel, which consists of a 3D-mesh strip that hides behind the central zipper. The two vents on the upper arms also seem to be somewhat hidden, although they are quite spacious and REV'IT! spent a lot of time positioning them perfectly. Combined with the two vents on the back, this is sufficient for a pleasant ride when the temperature rises. The Ridge GTX is - once again - top technology, and so you can also count on a lot of breathable qualities. The fact that the Ridge GTX - among others through the ventilation zippers - puts a lot of emphasis on waterproofness, makes you think that you might want to change this jacket into a wind-breaker at some point. Then just frame it. The removable storm collar is a plus, just like the wonderfully stylish lines, the navy-blue color and the wonderfully subtle but very efficient reflective elements.
Remarkably few individual adjustment options are visible, you can see that. The trick is to find the underlying elastic inserts. Or not, because they do the trick effortlessly and properly. It does imply that you buy the Ridge GTX in the right size, and that should be tight and well-cut, as usual in REV'IT! Our northern neighbors like to keep it short, even at the bottom, although the back has been worked out long enough to protect the lower back while sitting on the bike.
The Ridge GTX leaves no stone unturned and comes standard with SEEFLEX™ Level 2 CE protection on shoulders and elbows. The back has been prepared for the integration of an optional SEESOFT™ CE-level 2 back protector, and if desired a SEESOFT™ CE-level 1 chest protector can be integrated as well.
Available storage space is limited to two storage pockets and a chest pocket. Once again, take note of the zippers, which at least hint at the possibility of waterproofing. Yes, we always speak in the conditional form in this context. On the back, you can reach a (smaller) extra storage compartment from the side, and the inner pockets will not give you any complaints either.
The combination with REV'IT! motorcycle pants is obvious. A short and a long connecting zipper leave other options open as well.
