The Blackwater is a 'smock': a laminated anorak that you don't unzip over the entire length, but you put on over your head. Designed and cut to be combined as you like, and therefore roomy. Loose even. Not what you would normally expect from REV'IT!
The cut and fit of the jacket takes into account that you can wear an extra protector jacket underneath. If you're not planning on doing that, it's best to buy a size smaller than you're used to. So pay attention to this.
The REV'IT Blackwater is part of the new DIRT SERIES. The DIRT SERIES is what REV'IT! calls the "authentic off-road collection". Adventure comes first, but in the way adventure should be: the basics. It translates into lightweight motorcycle clothing, comfortable and with a high level of contemporary protection, but at the same time 'limited' to the essentials. No wifi, no laptops, no jackets-with-electricity-sockets. No forty-four layers and membranes.
What then? Getting dirty, playing, romping around, shivering from the cold and from the joy of it. Nothing superfluous. Whatever you think you need extra, you can bring it with you. Learn to think again. Learn to enjoy again.
This Blackwater is practical, comfortable and waterproof. And not 100% what the average biker expects from his traditional jacket. That's what makes it adventurous. Let it be clear that you can wear the Blackwater just about anywhere, but the direct link with an enduro or motocross bike might be obvious. In any case: it helps when the style choice, the look and feel, your feel, are oriented in that direction.
The outer shell is PWR|SHELL ripstop stretch, with 750D Cordura added on the sleeves: abrasion resistant and able to withstand a tough ride. In heavy weather, because the Blackwater is waterproof. You can generate airflow by opening the ventilation zippers on the upper arms (and back). Opening the front pocket - on the belly, like an anorak - has the effect of allowing warm air to escape that way. The (laminated) Hydratex® is responsible for the waterproof properties, and there is very little to be said against it. Don't look for the thermal lining: bring your own.
Impact protection is important when you go on an adventure. The Blackwater comes standard with smooth level 1 CE certified SEESMART™ protectors on the shoulders and the elbows. These are sufficient, but within the DIRT concept you are meant to supplement (or even replace) them with the REV'IT! Slingshot back protector or the REV 'IT! Proteus protector vest. Hence the removability of the protectors.
The hood is a clever piece of technical textile. First of all, the way it is attached is very clever. The ease with which you remove or replace the hood - which is also laminated - is impressive. The intention is that both on and off the bike you choose individually how you want to handle it. The large front pocket is ideal for storing the hood.
The Blackwater can be perfectly combined with the REV'IT! Element H2O (over the boot) or REV'IT! Peninsula (inside the boot) motorcycle pants.
