You won't find helmets priced much lower than the iXS 851. This is the ideal companion when conditions allow it.
By this we mean that a jet helmet is obviously not a speed monster. There are also limits to what a motorcycle helmet with this price tag can do. On the other hand: urban use, mounting and dismounting often, easy to use, light; if you do it right, this helmet will take you places.
The polycarbonate outer shell accommodates all helmet sizes, resulting in a weight of just over a kilo. Not bad at all for a jet helmet with an easy slide-on top vent and a clear, scratch-resistant quick-release visor. We don't need to mention that there’s ventilation at the bottom as well.
The fastener is one of the better kind, with spacious and soft chin straps that are adjustable in length and end in a handy, micrometric closure. The high-quality lining is of course removable.
In some countries (e.g., France) it is compulsory to provide your helmet with reflective stickers. The iXS 851 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
