With a name like 'Master', expectations are naturally high. And it has to be said, IXS comes up with a number of smart and strong features that make the Master GTX a serious and very high-quality all-round jacket.
This is a two-layer laminated GORE-TEX jacket, which is actually kept surprisingly light. So don't expect groaning coat hooks and certainly no heavy shoulder loads: water runs off the Master like a duck and that's where - besides the laminated GORE-TEX - a few extras come in. The most important one is probably the storm hood, which can be removed from the back of the collar and which provides the entire neck area with an extra layer. It is without the slightest doubt an asset! And not the only one. The sleeve ends (comfort cuff) are also specifically designed to form an extra buffer and to limit fidgeting with your gloves to an absolute minimum. The waterproof ambitions of the Master can also be seen in the zipper of the waterproof chest pocket. Finally, the waterproof ambitions are further enhanced by the central ‘labyrinth system’ zips, which form a double layer of protection against the harshest weather conditions.
The outer layer of the jacket is textile. One layer where it suffices, two where it's needed (shoulders and elbows). The wear- and tear-resistant fabric remains flexible and comfortable at IXS, which only enhances its wearing comfort. The thermal lining is removable and when the time comes, the 'air system' - in the form of six ventilation openings with zipper - offers sufficient refreshment.
The Master has been given a touring cut, with the typical front stowage pockets, in a jacket that reaches far enough over the waist. The centering straps with velcro are welcome and allow you to find a perfect fit. Especially because you can also adjust the sleeves (three times!) and at the waist (drawstring).
Apart from the two large storage pockets, the three remaining outer pockets, the two inner pockets, the Napoleon pocket and the three extra pockets in the thermal lining fit the philosophy of the tourer or commuter who hits the road daily and in all comfort.
Impact protection is provided by (level 2, EN1621-1:2012) impacTec TP-02 shoulder and elbow protectors. The elbow protectors are adjustable in height. An impacTec TP-06 back protector (EN1621-2:2014, level 2) is a standard feature of a motorcycle jacket of this caliber. All protectors are relatively soft and flexible when not under load. There is plenty of reflective material on the shoulders, back and upper arms.
Remarkable is the connection system of IXS, where the motorcycle jacket gets a (well thought out and unique) iXS-magnetic connection system ('iMC-system') on the inside. It allows you to connect the matching Master GTX motorcycle pants to the motorcycle jacket without a long connecting zipper.
There's maintenance clothing, and then there's clothing maintenance. Good, solid motorcycle clothing is an investment in comfort and personal safety. So invest in its maintenance after your purchase and enjoy your gear for longer.
