Alpinestars has been catching up when it comes to motorcycle jeans and this Merc Denim is a good example. Good, safe, very protective and - it is true - a class more stylish than anything the Italian manufacturer had in its jeans range until very recently.
Alpinestars is still a top brand, but their love for the race track made that motorcycle jeans were not really top priority. But now, thanks to their phenomenal racing know-how, they've caught up and produced a range of top of the range motorcycle jeans.
The Merc is a 'regular fit', which guarantees a classic pair of pants. With a base in stretch denim and stretch Kevlar panels literally on top of that, Alpinestars creates a pleasant, flexible and very comfortable pair of pants. The durable Kevlar panels are held together by triple stitched seams and get assistance from the Bio-Flex knee protectors.
We can be clear about the latter: ultra-lightweight impact protection with a very thin profile. On the bike it does the trick, but especially next to it, the Bio-Flex excels in invisibility and discretion. And that's about the starting point of a modern, contemporary pair of motorcycle jeans.
There's a lot more 'engineering' in a pair of pants like this than meets the eye, and Alpinestars wouldn't be Alpinestars if this pair didn't work out. The Merc is one of those pants that fits well right away. Just because they have thought about it. There is a line of anatomical preformed shapes, a specific fit and a lot of R&D.
You can see that, especially when you take a closer look. Pay attention to the rivets for instance, which - let's be honest - always involve a certain risk. Not so here. We'll let you discover it for yourself.
Finally, the Merc Denim from Alpinestars is to a very large extent an 'ordinary' pair of jeans: the pockets, the belt loops, there is little that gives away that you are actually very safely equipped when on the road.
There is maintenance clothing, and then there is clothing maintenance. Good, solid motorcycle clothing is an investment in comfort and personal safety. So invest in its maintenance after your purchase and enjoy your gear for longer.
