The Sydney Solid is a pretty competitively priced flip-up helmet. Double homologated, so you can ride it flipped-up, and with just about every distinguishing feature on board. A lot of helmet for little money, that pretty much sums it up.
The outer shell is of thermoplastic and one helmet shell is enough to hold all sizes. Nevertheless, the total weight of 1660 grams is - more or less - within limits. Especially because a number of weight gainers that are standard included. Starting with chin and top ventilation, each equipped with a sturdy slide to open and close. In the same style you will find one at the back, and GIVI also provided two open air outlets at the bottom. Attention has clearly been paid to a good air circulation throughout the helmet with clear aerodynamic features on the outside.
At the front center, even with a gloved hand and without much searching, you will find the clicking system to flip the helmet. It all goes smoothly and at the very top everything clicks into place. It has to, because the Sydney has a double homologation; as a full-face helmet as well as a jet helmet. Together that makes it a flip-up helmet. You are still with us, we can feel it.
The visor is transparent and scratch-resistant, with all the preparations for the installation of a Pinlock 70 lens, that comes standard. The Sydney has an integrated sun visor. With your left hand you can operate it in both directions, which doesn’t require much skill at all.
The Givi X.23 Sydney does little to conceal its internal reinforcements: not at all when flipped up, but also at the back you will clearly see the ends of the metal components. No problem, it fits the design.
Inside, everything feels comfortable. The anti-allergic and removable lining is high quality. With a wind curtain chin, a wind deflector on the nose (that you can also leave out) and a sturdy chin flap, the Sydney guarantees a high dose of soundproofing. Which you can determine for yourself, to a large extent. The soft chin strap is of course adjustable and the fastener is micrometric.
For maintenance of this helmet we recommend S100 helmet and visor cleaner for the outside. To clean the interior without removing it, you can use S100 helmet interior cleaner. New visors have received a water-repellent treatment. This treatment is less effective after some time. Restore the water-repellent effect with Rain-X anti-rain spray.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches or dull visors cause blinding reflections from street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. In rainy weather this effect is even more pronounced. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a longer trip? Then don't forget to bring a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
