With this C90 flip-up helmet, HJC brings an entry-level model on the market, which you will have quite a lot of fun with - at a competitive price. Everything you need is present, without fail.
One helmet shell contains all sizes. The material used is high-quality polycarbonate that is measured out quite tightly, resulting in a compact and well-fitting size. Still, you can count on about 1800 grams of extra weight: a flip-up helmet has a few things on board and the HJC C90 comes with all the features you can expect from a contemporary flip-up helmet.
Starting with an extensive ventilation system. The vents on the chin guard and at the top are easy to operate with one (gloved) hand and guarantee a constant supply of fresh air. While your hand is at the top, you can also immediately lower your tinted and adjustable sun visor. The slider is just behind the top vent, though the different sizes mean there is no confusion. The actual, transparent and scratch-free visor, is basic but solid. You don't need any tools - courtesy of the RapidFire™ Shield Replacement System - to replace it, possibly with a tinted or mirrored visor. Pinlock is optional. Treatment on the outside of the visor with Rain-X anti-rain spray improves visibility during rain showers.
To flip the helmet chin piece up or down, you use the red button at the bottom of the chin piece. This is easy and the button is large enough to be operated with gloves. It goes without saying that you wait with flipping up the chin guard until you reach your destination.
Under the red push button you will find the wind curtain chin (attached with two snaps) and that immediately brings us to the interior of the HJC C90. That these days they are cut to size, removable and perfectly cleanable is the least of our expectations. Cutouts in the right places make it extra comfortable for glasses wearers.
The micrometric buckle is of course adjustable in length and has been given a Quick-release system.
In some countries (e.g., France) it is compulsory to have reflective stickers on your helmet. The C90 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet are best cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
