Suede, style and a touch of sport
The Gaerne G_Rue Aquatech is the most outspoken motorcycle sneaker in the Gaerne range. Ocean blue suede with technical zones, laces and a waterproof Aquatech membrane: this motorcycle shoe is all about style. Anyone looking for a motorcycle sneaker that looks a little different from the rest, and wants to show it, has come to the right place.
Who is this motorcycle sneaker for?
The G_Rue is aimed at the urban rider and the more sport-minded motorcyclist who sees motorcycle footwear just as much as a style element. Daily cruising through the city and short sporty rides are the natural territory of this motorcycle sneaker.
The size range runs from EU 39 to EU 46 and is aimed (primarily) at men.
Material and construction
The upper combines suede with side inserts in technical fabric. Suede gives the G_Rue its soft, matt appearance but asks for a little more care than leather or microfibre: water and dirt leave more visible marks on suede than on a smoother material. That is something worth keeping in mind.
The technical fabric inserts increase breathability at the sides. Reinforcements on the ankle, toe and heel provide a basic level of impact protection in the vulnerable zones. The removable anatomical insole supports the foot.
Waterproofing
The Gaerne Aquatech membrane keeps rain out and allows perspiration to escape. As with all Aquatech models, this is Gaerne’s own membrane technology. For city use, even with the occasional shower, it is more than enough.
Suede needs a little extra attention in the rain: a suede spray enhances the water-repellent properties of the outer material and significantly extends its lifespan.
Protection and certification
The Gaerne G_Rue Aquatech is CE-certified to EN 13634:2017. Ankle protectors provide impact protection. Shin protection and gear-shift reinforcement are not present, which suits the profile of this motorcycle sneaker.
Closure and fit
The G_Rue closes exclusively with traditional laces. No zip, no Velcro: you determine the fit entirely yourself and the look stays clean. That is a deliberate aesthetic choice, but it also affects everyday use: putting them on takes a little more time than with models that include a zip. Tucking the lace loops away neatly is a good habit.
Maintenance
Good-quality motorcycle clothing is an investment in comfort and personal safety. After your purchase, invest in its maintenance too and enjoy your gear for even longer. We have gathered the best tips and tricks on this maintenance page.
The opinion of our RAD specialist
The G_Rue is as much about style as it is about technical or functional qualities. First and foremost, this is simply a very appealing sneaker. The fact that it also turns out to be a safe motorcycle shoe is a welcome bonus. What more could anyone want? Admittedly, this is not the most suitable option for a summer motorcycle trip across half a continent, although you could still choose to switch to the G_Rue after a few motorway days and continue your journey that way. For a large part of the year, this is a valid option almost anywhere. One with personality and identity, too.
The characterful waterproof G_Rue, which is still a fine example of Italian craftsmanship and quality, also comes at a reasonable price.
The only thing that might stop you from wearing this motorcycle shoe all the time is the ankle height. In specific situations, you may need more. In every other case, this G_Rue is enough.
