A racing motorcycle helmet with a certificate most do not achieve
The Scorpion EXO-Race Air is a full-face motorcycle helmet for sporty and competitive use. It is also one of the first motorcycle helmets in the world with FIM FRHPhe-02 homologation, the latest and most demanding safety standard for the racetrack. Anyone looking for a motorcycle helmet that is approved both for road use and for the track is in the right place. Anyone who rides only on the track is, too.
Lite Force Carbon Matrix, three shells, 1650 grams
The motorcycle helmet shell of the EXO-Race Air is built from Scorpion’s Lite Force Carbon Matrix: 12K ‘chopped carbon’ reinforced with seven different layers of fibre. This is clearly not standard carbon, but a more complex construction aimed at maximum shock absorption at high speed. Three motorcycle helmet shell sizes ensure a compact fit and are neatly distributed across the full-size range.
The Scorpion EXO-Race Air weighs 1650 grams. For a race carbon motorcycle helmet, that is on the heavy side, but the extra layered construction is necessary to meet the FIM-02 standards. That standard demands more than its predecessor, including additional impact tests and skull-load criteria. The weight is therefore not a compromise, but a consequence of those protection requirements.
Ventilation
The ventilation is tuned for race use. Front air intakes channel fresh air through the EPS ducts, and four outlet vents at the rear expel warm air. The system works together with the aerodynamically shaped shell to combine stability and airflow at high speed.
Visor
- The clear visor is scratch-resistant and comes with a Pinlock 120XLT MaxVision lens included in the box.
- A tinted visor is also included as a second screen.
- There is no internal sun visor. For a race full-face motorcycle helmet, that makes sense: an integrated sun visor adds weight and complexity that do not belong in this segment.
- The visor uses Scorpion’s Ellip-Tec hinge system with central locking.
Closure
The EXO-Race Air closes with a double D-ring. It is the only permitted closure for motorcycle helmets in competition use, and therefore the obvious choice here.
Interior and comfort
The KwikFit 3D interior is removable and washable. The AirFit system allows the cheek pads to be individually pumped up via a small pump in the chin area. That lets you fine-tune the fit of the motorcycle helmet yourself, even if you wear a neck tube or balaclava. A cut-out for glasses wearers is included. A nose guard and chin wind deflector are supplied.
Certification
The Scorpion EXO-Race Air is homologated to ECE 22/06 and FIM FRHPhe-02. The latter is the latest FIM standard for circuit competition, stricter than the previous generation and mandatory from 2026 in many FIM championships. This is one of the first motorcycle helmets on the market with that dual qualification.
The opinion of our RAD specialist
The EXO-Race Air is Scorpion’s premium motorcycle race helmet. The FIM-02 homologation translates into measurable performance, and this is one of the few motorcycle helmets that meets that standard. There is nothing to criticise there. The fact that the weight ends up a bit higher than on comparable carbon motorcycle helmets is a deliberate trade-off Scorpion has made.
Anyone who combines maximum protection with track legality and a still-sharp price for this level will find a serious candidate here.
Reflective stickers and maintenance
In some countries, such as France, it is mandatory to fit your motorcycle helmet with reflective stickers. The Scorpion EXO-Race Air is supplied without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets are available separately here.
Maintenance tips:
- If you dread removing your motorcycle helmet interior to wash it, you can also clean the interior without taking it out using S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and visor of your motorcycle helmet are best cleaned with S100 Helmet and Visor Cleaner.
Safety first!
Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. At night in particular, scratches create a blinding reflection of streetlights and oncoming headlights. In rainy weather, this effect is even more pronounced. A worn visor should be replaced as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Be sure to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
