With this adapter it is easy to connect your camera to a RAM MOUNT®. Virtually any connection is possible, with the distinctive RAM MOUNT® 1 inch ball at the end.

The other end is more specific. And yet, it will fit the factory connection of many action cameras, allowing a connection directly to the camera. You don't need a lot of tools for this. A star head screwdriver will do the trick.
