'Vapor' suggests a heavy dose of air, smoke, wind ... you fill it in yourself. The fact is, the Vapor 2 is pretty much an all-rounder, thanks to an ingenious system of vents that reveal a high degree of technological ingenuity.
Aside from the fact that the Vapor 2 strives for - and achieves - a REV'IT level of quality, it's not the PWR|Shell 500D combinations on the outside that stand out. Sure, those are tear and abrasion resistant, stretching and/or ripstop where necessary, in function of comfort or extra protection. Nor is it the laminated reflective logos that draw all the attention. Nor is it the removable thermal lining that is finished with a sense of detail. Or the integrated, waterproof and breathable hydratex® membrane.
All of these things are - oh how spoiled we are - pretty "normal" in the world of REV'IT. We almost take it for granted that we can expect them. No, with the Vapor 2, it's the ventilation zippers that are going to walk away with the biggest chunk of attention. You immediately notice two pairs: two slide diagonally across the front, the other two are located on the underarms. And these are very different.
The underarms: well, okay. Opening ventilation zippers means creating an airflow between the outer layer and waterproof membrane. This creates a general cooling effect, enhanced by the breathable properties of the membrane and leading to the air vents at the back of the jacket.
The two ventilation zippers on the chest are of a different order. High tech. They create a direct air flow to the body, right through the waterproof membrane. To keep the whole thing waterproof, in reverse order, requires other zippers. Lockout zippers, they're called, and with their rubberized, waterproof edges, they require a tiny bit of maintenance. So better not let them dry out. The combination of these two ventilation systems, makes the Vapor 2 a solid all-rounder. Three seasons at least, four if you're lucky.
The fact that the attention is visually drawn by the zippers, has to do with the parallel arrangement of the adjustment straps. The two flanks, you can do what you want with them. Higher, lower, tighter, looser ... you choose. In the same spirit of far-reaching adjustability, there are push buttons on the upper arms, lower arms and the adjustment strap on the wrist. The flexi snap on the collar. The collar hook if you want to wear the collar open. The adjustment cord inside, at the bottom. All of which contribute to a perfect fit. REV'IT likes it tight, that's for sure.
The Vapor 2 is prepared for the Connector NEON vest, should you so desire, and everything is in place on the back to accommodate a certified back protector. SEEFLEX, level 2, CE-approved shoulder and elbow protectors are standard. If necessary, you can easily add a SEESOFT CE-level 2 back protector. The presence of sufficient storage space, the pleasant collar which has been designed with a sense of detail, the sleeve ends which are clearly not created 'in a hurry' ... The Vapor 2 is a top product.
