The “Screen size” specification indicates the size of the GPS device’s display. Screen size is measured diagonally from one upper corner to the opposite lower corner and expressed in inches (1 inch ≈ 2.54 cm). Most modern motorcycle GPS units feature a 6-inch screen, as this size provides ample space to display information clearly and legibly. At the same time, smaller devices are making a comeback for riders who consider a larger screen distracting for practical or aesthetic reasons.

This specification shows the width, height, and depth of the GPS unit. All dimensions are expressed in centimeters, providing a clear understanding of the device’s physical size and how it will fit on the handlebar or in your storage space.

Screen resolution describes how many picture elements (pixels) a screen can display. The more pixels there are, the sharper and more detailed the image. A higher resolution makes maps, routes, and other information easier to read, even in bright sunlight or at high speeds. This makes the use of the device more intuitive and comfortable.

The "Battery life" specification indicates how long the GPS device can operate on a full battery charge.
In practice, this is less important for most motorcycle GPS devices, as they are supplied with an active mount that connects to the motorcycle’s battery. This means the device receives continuous power while riding.
As long as the motorcycle battery provides sufficient power, the GPS device can therefore be used almost indefinitely.

Indicates the extent to which the GPS device is resistant to water and weather conditions. This is important because the device is exposed to rain and water spray while riding.
The “X” in IPX indicates that no specific rating for dust protection is provided (the first value in the IP code normally refers to dust protection).

• IPX5: Resistant to light rain and water spray.
• IPX6: Resistant to heavy rain and powerful water jets.
• IPX7: Fully waterproof and resistant to temporary immersion (up to 1 meter for 30 minutes).

Map coverage indicates which maps are included with the GPS unit by default. This determines in which regions you can use the device for navigation right away. Some GPS units come with maps of specific countries or continents, while other models provide broader coverage, allowing you to explore multiple countries or regions without additional purchases.

Indicates whether the GPS automatically receives all future map updates at no additional cost.
This ensures your maps always stay up to date and reliable, without the need to regularly purchase new maps.

Indicates whether you can purchase and add additional map data to the GPS device.
This allows you to extend the standard map coverage to other countries or regions, keeping the device flexible for future travels.

Indicates the storage capacity of the GPS device (in GB).
The larger the memory, the more maps, routes and waypoints you can store. More storage makes the device more flexible to use, without the need to regularly delete files.

An SD card slot allows you to expand the storage capacity of the GPS device using a separate SD card.
This allows you to install additional maps or store routes and waypoints. Please note: an SD card is not included as standard and must be purchased separately.

Indicates whether the GPS warns you when approaching fixed speed cameras and other permanent speed enforcement systems, such as average speed checks.
Most modern motorcycle GPS devices include this feature as standard. If not, it can often be added as an optional feature via a separate purchase.

Important: In some countries, the use or possession of speed camera warning systems is prohibited or subject to restrictions. This includes, among others, France, Switzerland, Cyprus, North Macedonia, Germany, Slovakia and Turkey. Always check local regulations before travelling and disable the feature before entering these countries.

Indicates whether and how the GPS receives and uses real-time traffic data when calculating routes.
This allows the device to avoid traffic jams and other delays, and to suggest alternative routes so you can reach your destination faster and more efficiently.

Indicates whether the GPS clearly shows which lane to take at junctions, exits and merge lanes.
This helps you get into the correct lane in time and makes navigation on busy roads and complex intersections easier and safer.

Indicates whether the GPS can provide spoken navigation instructions:

• Yes : Instructions are audible via the built-in speaker or a connected intercom.
• No : The device does not provide spoken instructions.
• Only via connected intercom : Some devices do not have a built-in speaker; instructions are only audible through a connected intercom.

Helps motorcyclists find the most winding and adventurous roads while avoiding straight and boring sections.
When planning a route, you can choose how many curves and bends you want to follow, usually across different intensity levels from low to high. This allows you to tailor your ride to your preference for twisty roads, creating a more exciting and personalised riding experience.

Indicates whether the GPS can play music while riding:

• No : The device cannot play music.
• Via built-in MP3 player : You can play music directly on the device.
• Streaming from connected smartphone : Music is played via a smartphone connected to the GPS device.

Indicates whether the GPS supports hands-free calling.
You can directly accept incoming calls from a connected smartphone via the GPS device. To hear the conversation while riding, a helmet intercom connection is required. The device shows who is calling, allowing safe and easy communication.

Indicates whether the GPS supports or is supplied with a mount and charger for in-car use:

• Yes : Everything is included to use the GPS device in the car as well.
• Optional : Accessories can be purchased separately.
• No : The device cannot be used in a car.

Indicates whether the GPS can be secured against theft by locking it into its mount :

• Yes : The GPS device can be locked into its mount.
• No : The device cannot be locked.
• Optional : The locking function is available as an additional accessory.

All GPS devices come standard with a landscape view. Some devices also support a portrait view.
Both views have their advantages:

• Landscape view (standard) : Provides more space for additional information and a clearer overview of the route.
• Portrait view (optional) : The route is more visible on narrower screens and can be more convenient depending on the mounting position on the motorcycle or personal preference.
