The Quartz XD10 disc brake lock offers a stiff challenge to any potential thief. Oxford provided a 10 millimetre diameter locking pin, a striking double strength chassis and - not unimportantly - a reminder cable to prevent you from crashing your bike when you forget to remove the lock.
The hollow, double construction still looks impressive, although many similar locks in this family are of the padded, and also much heavier, variety. It gives the Quartz XD10, already very compact, the impression that it just fits in your pocket. You're probably not going to store it there, but that's up to you.
A small and practical design that is quite unique, and a hardened 10 millimetre thick locking pin, we are already convinced. Three keys are supplied as standard. Oxford provides - if necessary - the service to order them again at a later stage or to have them made.
Extra convenient is the fact that you do not need the keys to close the lock. If you keep it open, a simple push on the button is enough to close the case. It is best to check beforehand that you haven't left the key on the kitchen table. However, it mainly illustrates that this is a disc brake lock designed for fast, frequent use.
The supplied reminder cable (or memory cable) works very simple: you attach one loop to the lock and the other loop goes around the handle bar. Now you won't forget to remove the disc brake lock before you leave.
Tip of the RAD-house: make it a habit to always attach your brake disc lock to the brake disc of your front wheel. It is much more noticeable for a potential thief (which is okay, a lock always has a dissuasive effect) and the odds are better that you notice it yourself before getting on.
You wouldn’t be the first to take off quickly and end up with a distorted brake disc or a banged-up mudguard.
