The HJC RPHA‑72 is the successor to the RPHA‑71 and builds on a line of sport touring full‑face motorcycle helmets that have proved their worth. This motorcycle helmet combines technical refinement with a still sharp price, while meeting the latest ECE 22.06 standard.
With the HJC RPHA‑72 we are in the better motorcycle helmet segment. The helmet shell is manufactured according to the Premium Integrated Matrix method (P.I.M.). HJC uses prepreg for this, a material that combines epoxy resin with special fibres. That technique comes straight from the racing and aviation industries, and delivers a helmet shell that remains light while impact protection is up to standard. The second generation of this P.I.M. technique improves the layered structure, leading to greater stability and better performance in extreme conditions. The different motorcycle helmet sizes are distributed across three helmet shells, so every size remains compact.
And with that we may be doing the HJC RPHA‑72 a disservice. The biggest visual change compared to the RPHA‑71 is the even more compact helmet shell. The effective downsizing improves aerodynamics without sacrificing protection. If we go technical for a moment: lift force (upward force) drops by 6.2%, drag force (air resistance) by 19.7%. You notice that especially on the motorway and during longer rides.
As the full name of this specific motorcycle helmet version suggests, this is the RPHA carbon version of this motorcycle helmet. HJC offers this technologically advanced and refined version to lift the (already very good) RPHA motorcycle helmet to another level. Does it show? Yes, it does: an RPHA carbon version is 100 grams lighter than the ‘regular’ ones, hence, is more comfortable and the carbon fibres absorb shocks in a different, and according to many, better way.
The ACS ventilation system (Advanced Channeling Ventilation System) channels airflow from front to back. Two air intakes at the front and three outlets at the rear remove warm, humid air. The integrated air channels in the inner shell distribute fresh air internally. You operate the ventilation openings on the chin and top with sliders. And those you can also operate smoothly with motorcycle gloves on.
The clear HJ‑48 visor is Pinlock‑ready and features an anti‑scratch coating with 99% UV protection. The new ratchet system supports smoother visor movements and provides better sealing. The ‘push‑release’ visor lock is appearing on more recent motorcycle helmets. It makes opening and closing safer and easier. A Pinlock 120 XLT lens is supplied in the box.
The integrated sun visor has an anti‑fog coating. The Dynamic Multi‑Step system lets you position the sun visor in different settings. By adjusting the setting above the slider (left side), you determine in which of the available positions the sun visor deploys. Those adjustments ensure the sun visor fits different face shapes. You can almost tailor the sun visor to personal preference.
The antibacterial lining wicks away moisture and dries quickly. Crown (top) and cheek pads are removable and washable. The Emergency Kit (cheek pads) allows emergency services to remove the motorcycle helmet safely and quickly in emergencies. Recesses at temple height make the RPHA‑72 suitable for glasses wearers.
The chin strap closes with a titanium double‑D closure. Racing material, then, and perfectly matching a motorcycle helmet of this calibre. The double‑D remains the safest and most reliable motorcycle helmet closure. A breath deflector and chin curtain are standard. The latter has a quieter design than in the predecessor, making for pleasant riding.
The RPHA‑72 is prepared for SMART HJC 11B, 21B and 50B Bluetooth communication (available separately). The intercom cover is a new design.
Reflective stickers are mandatory in France (and certain other countries).

- Reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet, only to have it washed? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and Visor Cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
