The GMS Aperio is a versatile modular helmet with dual P/J homologation, meaning you are allowed to ride with the chin bar either closed or flipped up. This flexibility makes this motorcycle helmet suitable for a wide range of situations, from city traffic to longer touring rides, at a price that fits the GMS philosophy: budget‑friendly without losing the essentials.
The helmet shell is made from polycarbonate and comes in two different shell sizes to cover all motorcycle helmet sizes. Using two outer shells improves the fit. Because modular helmets require several extra components, the 1,650‑gram weight remains reasonable.
You operate the flip‑up chin bar via a red lever centrally at the bottom. In its ‘normal’ position, the chin bar is safely locked while riding. Press the red lever and you can open the Aperio completely. Once fully raised, you secure the chin bar with a second red slider under the right hinge. This safety catch prevents the chin bar from opening accidentally while riding. All controls can be operated while wearing motorcycle gloves.
Ventilation is provided by openings on top and on the chin bar, all operated by sliders that are easy to use with motorcycle gloves. The airflow is channelled through integrated ducts inside the motorcycle helmet and exits via a rear outlet, effectively removing excess heat. If that is not enough, you always have the option to ride with the Aperio in the open position.
The clear visor is scratch‑resistant and fitted with a quick‑release system. GMS mentions a locking mechanism with automatic pull‑in of the visor. Whether this fully eliminates wind ingress would require thorough testing, but you certainly do not need to be a technical expert to remove or refit the clear visor.
The Aperio is prepared for a Pinlock lens, which must be purchased separately. A built‑in dark sun visor is operated by a slider on the lower left side. It can also be lowered partially, allowing you to fine‑tune the amount of sun protection to suit conditions.
Inside, the GMS Aperio features comfortable polyester cheek pads and lining. Both are anti‑bacterial, removable and washable, which is practical for hygiene and maintenance when the motorcycle helmet is used regularly. Cut‑outs in the lining allow spectacle wearers to wear their glasses without discomfort. The cheek pads are separately removable, which is also appreciated by first responders in emergencies.
A removable breath guard and chin curtain increase comfort and can be taken out to adapt the motorcycle helmet to specific riding conditions or personal preference.
The chin strap fastens with a micrometric ratchet buckle that can be adjusted precisely, offering both security and everyday convenience.
The Aperio is prepared for Bluetooth communication, with dedicated space for speakers in the lining. The GMS Aperio complies with the ECE 22.06 safety standard, the latest European certification for motorcycle helmets.
No kit of reflective stickers is included in the box. The application of these stickers is mandatory in France. Reflective helmet stickers can be found here.
Some maintenance tips: The helmet interior can also be cleaned without removing it, with S100 interior cleaner. The exterior of the helmet is best cleaned with S100 helmet and visor cleaner. New visors have received a water-repellent treatment. This treatment is less effective after some time. Restore the water-repellent effect with Rain-X water-repellent spray. Safety above all!
Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections from street lights and oncoming headlights. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
