The Halo PRO Drystar XF motorcycle jacket from Alpinestars is the successor to, and laminated evolution of, what was already an atypical motorcycle jacket. That unconventional approach remains. In fact, Alpinestars pushes the concept even further and tackles it in a different way.
Where the earlier Halo used a removable membrane, this PRO XF version immediately opts for a laminated 3‑layer construction. The Drystar XF membrane is permanently bonded to the stretch ripstop outer shell. Waterproofing is always present, no longer optional. You can see it: in the asymmetrically placed main zip; in the 3‑layer stretch Drystar XF material with ripstop; in the huge front and rear ventilation panels that balance everything; in the detachable sleeves; in the two‑way water‑resistant YKK AQUASEAL zips.
This is still not a motorcycle jacket you just put on and forget about.
The Halo PRO Drystar XF combines so many functions that a conventional build is not enough. You cannot be fully waterproof and fully ventilated at the same time, serve both winter and summer at once, and be both heavily protected and ultra‑lightweight if you stick to ‘normal’. So Alpinestars does not stick to normal here.
The asymmetric main zip sits to the side, leaving plenty of room at the front for a wide ventilation panel. That keeps the operating window of this motorcycle jacket extremely wide. Open the water‑resistant YKK AQUASEAL zips on chest and back, roll up the 3‑layer stretch panels and stow them in the dedicated pockets. The laminated construction remains waterproof, but the direct airflow through mesh panels on chest and back carries away the heat. Anyone taking this off‑road will certainly appreciate it.
And it does not stop there. Zip off the entire outer layer of the sleeves and store them in the waterproof rear pocket. What remains are full mesh sleeves with exposed Nucleon Flex Pro Level 2 shoulder and elbow protectors. Impact protection is always retained, ventilation goes through the roof and, thanks to the laminated construction, your torso remains protected against light rain even without the outer sleeves.
If you are caught out by heavy rain, you simply zip the laminated sleeves back on. The water‑resistant zips ensure no water gets through. PU reinforcements on shoulders and elbows, and ripstop fabric in the extended rear section, provide extra protection in high‑wear areas.
The Halo PRO Drystar XF is compatible with Tech‑Air airbag systems for full upper‑body protection. Ergonomic adjustment at the biceps, waist and wrists yields a personalised fit. The option to route and fix a hydration hose makes long adventure rides more comfortable as well.
Multiple water‑resistant pockets, including a large rear pocket, offer space for practical adventure use. A chest protector is available as an option, as is a back protector, and all provisions are present to fit them. The standard Nucleon Flex Pro Level 2 shoulder and elbow protectors meet EN 1621‑1:2012 and offer superior impact protection.
All these adjustment options affect the protection class: with sleeves fitted, the Halo PRO Drystar XF is AA‑class motorcycle gear. Remove the outer layer of the sleeves and Class A remains. Both comply with EN 17092‑3:2020.
Alpinestars has clearly created a multi‑purpose motorcycle jacket for high‑mileage riders who want to stop just long enough to make a small adjustment, then get moving again. The Halo PRO Drystar XF motorcycle jacket takes a bit of getting used to, a bit of exploring and a bit of trial and error, but the end result more than delivers.
