The IXS 301 1.0 is a nice and well-equipped motorcycle helmet at a price you wouldn’t expect to find a modular helmet. Especially when it’s even compliant with the latest ECE 22.06 criteria. In other words, there’s no bargaining here.
The three available EPS helmet sizes all fit into one helmet shell, delivering give or take 1600 grams on the scale. That’s quite good because on top of the excellent top and chin ventilation the IXS 301 1.0 is supplied with an integrated sun visor.
Let’s rewind: the chin ventilation is either open or closed, which you can decide effortlessly while wearing motorcycle gloves. The same applies on top, with a sufficiently large sliding system. Between those two ventilation openings, there’s the transparent, scratch-resistant and Pinlock®-lens ready visor. This is called a ‘quick change visor’, interchanged for another one in no time. Not that you need to do this often because you can just as easily use the drop-down sun visor. This slider can be found to the left at the bottom and with the breath deflector present, this provides a more than decent facial protection.
To flip up this flip-up helmet, you use the central pushbutton below.
Which is no crime, not at all. With a couple of cut-outs for glasses and a lining and cheek pads that can be removed, washed and of high-quality, the IXS 301 1.0 creates a nice environment. The closure is an adjustable, soft chin strap with a (short) micrometric click clasp. In layman’s terms: easy to operate and precise to the millimetre or two.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet are best cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor cleaner.
Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
