The GIVI X.21 Challenger is a flip-up helmet with double homologation. You can ride it as if it were a full-face helmet (closed) or in the flipped-up position. Add to that the integrated sun visor and the supplied Pinlock® lens and take a look at the price. Indeed: top deal.
The outer shell of the Challenger Globe is made of thermoplastic. One helmet shell is enough to accommodate all helmet sizes and with a weight of just over 1500 grams, no one is complaining.
The GIVI X.21 Challenger is - considering everything on board - a pretty light motorcycle helmet. The double chin ventilation can be opened or closed by means of the centrally positioned slider. Be careful not to confuse this with the lever that is positioned just below the to open up the chin guard. About two centimeters higher you will find the tab of the transparent visor, so you will have to be very careful with very thick gloves and a lot of haste it can possibly take some time, although it is - as often - mainly a matter of habit. The top ventilation is provided with a slider as well and all incoming riding wind leaves the GIVI X.21 Challenger Globe at the rear via the outlets in the (small) spoiler.
The chin guard is easy to open and close. Fully open and fully closed are logically just about the calibrated positions. Especially with a double homologation, it is not the intention to see a chin guard fall down in front of your eyes.
The GIVI X.21 Challenger Globe has a transparent, scratch-resistant visor. The Pinlock® lens is included. As is often the case with GIVI, everything can be quickly and easily (de)mounted, thanks to a 'Microlock' system. An internal and tinted sun visor comes out when needed and is stowed away just as quickly with the help of the slider at the bottom left. Folded out the sun visor barely reaches the wind deflector on the chin guard. Also missing: the wind curtain on the chin. Both deliver - it is still a flip-up helmet of course - a relatively 'closed’ feeling, which is comfortable to the ears.
A length-adjustable micrometric buckle ensures that the helmet stays perfectly in place. The soft chin strap enhances the feeling of comfort. The neckband improves the soundproofing and reduces the risk of whiplash and the inconveniences of too much wind. The snugly fitting lining - easy to remove and washable - of this helmet is custom made and hypoallergenic.
All things considered and taking its price into account, this is a very good motorcycle helmet for starters or for the occasional rider.
For the maintenance of this helmet we recommend S100 helmet and visor cleaner for the outside. For cleaning the interior, without removing it, you can use S100 helmet interior cleaner. New visors have received a water-repellent treatment. This treatment is less effective after some time. Restore the water-repellent effect with Rain-X anti-rain spray.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches visors cause blinding reflections from street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a longer trip? Then don't forget to bring a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
