With the 1100, IXS offers a very competitively priced full-face helmet. However, there are a lot of functionalities - you can't accuse IXS of not having done their homework.
The new matte coating technology looks good. Full stop. It gives the 1100 a clean and sharp look, which is further enhanced by the aerodynamic shape. One helmet shell contains all helmet sizes with polycarbonate as basic raw material. The result weighs about 1600 grams, which is certainly not too much for a full-face helmet with built-in sun visor.
Chin and top ventilation feel solid. Opening and closing is easy with a gloved hand. At the bottom you open four vents, at the top two. At the back the wind leaves the helmet through four outlets.
The clear, scratch-resistant quick-release visor is basic but good. It is Pinlock®-ready, although the actual Pinlock® lens remains optional. The rear, integrated sun visor extends almost to the nose deflector. The slide to operate it can be found on the left side of the helmet, just below the hinge of the transparent visor.
The inside of the helmet has been designed with quality in mind. The lining (polyester) is of course removable and washable, while the neckline is finished with an eye for detail. There is a wind seal on the chin and the helmet is held in place by a length-adjustable micrometric fastener.
In some countries (e.g., France) it is compulsory to equip your helmet with reflective stickers. The iXS1100 is delivered without these reflective stickers. Reflective sticker sets can be found here.
Maintenance tips:
- Are you reluctant to disassemble the interior of your helmet in order to wash it? You can also clean the interior without removing it with S100 Helmet Interior Cleaner.
- The outside and the visor of your helmet should be cleaned with S100 Helmet and visor cleaner.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches cause blinding reflections of street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a worn visor as soon as possible. Planning a long trip? Then don't forget to take a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
