The Alpinestars Faster family keeps growing. Faster and faster. Faster, Faster 2, Faster 3, Faster 3 RIDEKNIT, Faster‑Vented, Stella Faster 3 … and now the Faster‑4 Drystar, with every new generation building on its predecessors and, more importantly, on decades of R&D at the highest level of motorsport.
So, there is some hesitation in just calling the Faster‑4 Drystar a ‘motorcycle shoe’. Not if you define ‘shoe’ as ‘a sole, a bit of leather and some laces’. The Faster‑4 Drystar is another piece of high‑end technology, designed and built for performance, precision and protection, disguised as a sporty riding shoe.
What makes the Faster‑4 Drystar different from similar motorcycle footwear? The waterproof and breathable Drystar membrane is Alpinestars’ in‑house label for anything that needs to be both waterproof and breathable. Its multi‑layer construction is designed for moisture management, breathability and durability, providing 100% waterproof performance in all weather conditions. It is worth adding that this is still, in terms of height, more of a high‑top sneaker; ‘waterproof’ becomes relative if water finds its way in from the top via your legs and trousers.
The outer of the Faster‑4 Drystar is a seamless microfibre construction that delivers a more protective and more comfortable feel on the motorcycle. This is not just ‘made from’ or ‘manufactured using’ something; it is a carefully engineered, lightweight and wear‑resistant structure that is extremely durable and breathable. It is a piece of craftsmanship with a sharp, modern look. The days when every riding shoe was a chopped‑off, boxy block feel a long way off compared to the Faster‑4.
The reinforced rubber sole is specifically formulated for optimal performance: once again lightweight, with structured grip and excellent shock absorption. An integrated support shank increases sole stiffness and prevents your toes and heel suddenly moving too close together while riding. Extra heel cushioning in the midsole further increases comfort and makes the Faster‑4 a very walkable shoe. The replaceable anatomical EVA footbed with Lycra top layer supports the foot effectively.
The 3D mesh lining provides excellent breathability, while anti‑slip microsuede on the heel improves grip. Padding on the tongue and shaft delivers high comfort levels and an excellent fit around ankle and instep. The rear section offers extra flexibility and comfort at the Achilles tendon.
The reinforced ankle structure offers support. Medial dual‑density ankle protectors handle impact and slide protection, while an extended TPU ankle reinforcement in the lower area further boosts support and protection. TPR reinforcements are also found at the front of the Faster‑4 Drystar. Internal toe and heel cups are present as well. The asymmetric design comes from the integrated gear‑shift reinforcement.
An adjustable hook‑and‑loop closure with TPR strap keeps this motorcycle shoe securely in place. The traditional lace system provides an easy, secure and comfortable fit; tuck the lace loops under the Velcro strap and you can fine‑tune the fit precisely.
