Ladakh can be found in the shadows of the Himalayans, which immediately bring to mind low temperatures. Right, but Ladakh also borders with sultry India, which requires a completely different approach. Yet, this Ladakh 3L D-Dry® could be the perfect link. With a couple of monsoon rains to spare.
The outer layer of this 3-in-1 consists mainly of 600D Polyester which tells the experienced biker that we’re talking about an outstanding wear- and tear-resistant base to look further North as well as South. The exterior of the Ladakh 3L D-Dry® is largely the ‘coat rack’ the underlying functional layers are literally suspended around. In logical order, this is the D-Dry®membrane that unites waterproof properties with breathing capacity, and a thermal lining. All removable with a zip, which was already clear and in the case of the thermal lining, even wearable separate from the rest. The times that membranes and extra layers stuck to your skin and felt very uncomfortable seem to have reached their definite end with this generation of DAINESE motorbike jackets.
The only thing missing now to turn this Ladakh 3L D-Dry® into a true all-rounder, is decent ventilation. This comes in different formats and forms. On the back, they act as riding wind exits, flowing in through the openings on the sleeves and chest. Flowing, yes; should you want it to. You can easily open up both ventilation openings on the chest and keep them open by means of a pushbutton. There’s an extra ventilation opening in the neck. We’re not quite sure whether we’ll use this one a whole lot, but having the option is never a bad thing. The connection between the two ventilation exits on the back is a proper attempt to keep everything manageable with one hand.
The cut of the Ladakh 3L D-Dry® is ‘standard’, which in the world of DAINESE means it doesn’t quite make the three-quarters touring cut cut. So, relatively short and when you see a fellow-biker pass you by fluttering and flapping, then they’ll probably be wearing something else. The centring straps-with-belt, double pushbuttons on the sleeves and vertical zippers at the bottom allow for a couple of adjustment options. Including the Velcro strips at the sleeve ends.
Two slash pockets and a chest pocket deliver a lot of storage space. Inside, there’s another – of course – inner pocket and on the lower back, DAINESE goes for the mesh-cargo option, where you can store wet gloves.
The impact protection is impressive as well: Pro-Armor, level 2 shoulder and elbow protectors come standard. A back protector and/or a chest protector (double, two-part version) can be fitted quickly and easily. Reflective inserts do what they are supposed to do at night without drawing too much attention to themselves during the day.
We definitely need to mention the integrated Magic Connection™-system which allows you to temporarily attach your motorbike gloves to your jacket in the bottom right with a magnet. They obviously need to be equipped with the Magic Connection™-system as well.
