The AS-DSL Shiro is the result of a collaboration between Alpinestars (AS) and Diesel (DSL). That's right. A top producer of motorcycle clothing and a top producer of jeans, if that doesn’t create sparks...
Alpinestars has been catching up when it comes to motorcycle jeans and this AS-DSL Shiro is a perfect example. Good, safe, very protective and - it has to be said - a class more stylish than anything the Italian manufacturer has had in its range of motorcycle jeans until recently.
Diesel's literal proximity to the Italian Alpinestars production plant results in the AS-DSL Shiro, an impressive pair of motorcycle jeans.
The AS-DSL Shiro has an ergonomic cut: to the glory of the rider who wears it, but mainly to ensure even more comfort. Towards the bottom it all fits a little tighter. The eye wants and gets something of course, but with serious motorcycle jeans our first interest goes to impact protection. In this specific case, Cordura is the first line of defense. The dark, washed version.
There is enough stretch and we can be clear about the Bio-Flex knee protectors: ultra-lightweight impact protection with a very thin profile. On the bike it does what it’s supposed to do, but especially next to it, the Bio-Flex excels in invisibility and discretion. And that's the starting point of a modern, contemporary pair of motorcycle jeans.
It will - really - at times make you wonder whether you're actually wearing a pair of motorcycle pants, or you just jumped into those jeans this morning. Diesel proudly puts its own label on the AS-DSL Shiro, while Alpinestars provides a nice (stitched) detail on the back pocket. Don't look for overly flashy rivets: they'll snag or cause bodywork damage. With the AS-DSL Shiro, everything is neatly tucked underneath. In return, you get two extra storage pockets. That's where they deliver 'real world practicality' according to AS-DSL.
There's a lot more thoughtful engineering in a pair of pants like this than meets the eye, and Alpinestars and Diesel wouldn't be themselves if things turned out differently here. The AS-DSL Shiro is one of those motorcycle pants that immediately fits well. Just because they have thought about it. There is a stroke of anatomical pre-shaping, a specific fit and lots of R&D.
A row of sturdy buttons closes these jeans off.
