Salt is one of the worst enemies of your bike's chrome and paintwork. Freshly spread salt is extremely corrosive, and many 'winter hibernators' rightly cite this as their reason for temporarily leaving the bike in the garage.
Decreasing resale value, terrible looks and the fact that damage once done tends to worsen sooner or later; there are enough reasons to protect your paintwork during the winter months with a layer of anti-corrosion spray.
