With the Khao Air motorcycle jacket Modeka answers the question whether a summer jacket can withstand a summer shower. The answer is yes, it can. Provided that the motorcycle jacket in question is equipped for that. And in this case the answer is also: yes.
The Khao Air is aimed at all weather conditions, without the cold. That's what it comes down to. It makes this jacket a 2-in-1 for warm days, with a lot of extra features if you ask us. The exterior is not quite see-through and is lavishly equipped with lots of mesh panels. Just about the entire front, the back, in the back... the wind has free rein everywhere. That is the intention, although we still want to count on sufficient protection. The 'coat rack’ - the frame that holds all the mesh - is made of 450D polyamide. Textile with a high tear and wear resistance. Double-stitched on the areas where the risk of sliding is highest.
And that's it for the outside. YF protectors on the shoulders and elbows, two zippered pockets with velcro on the waist and collar, which we can also mention, just like the adjustment options on the sleeves (push button and velcro). But that’s about it. A summer jacket. Full stop.
A summer jacket in which we can easily zip a Humax® membrane. Waterproof, windproof and breathable. Just like that. The range of possibilities suddenly opens up. Because now you are not limited to the one day a year the weather is great. Now you can go and tour in about every (more or less 'normal') circumstance and adjust on the way without any problems. Now you can ride from early spring until late autumn. As long as the temperatures do not dip dramatically, it's safe. Literally and figuratively. The removable Humax® membrane is more than enough for what the weather gods have in store.
Keep in mind that the construction of the Khao Air allows the rain to get through the outer layer. The water-resistant element is 'limited’ to the membrane, which is incorporated - as we said before: this jacket is not transparent – practically unprotected right underneath the mesh panels. It is still a summery jacket. On the other hand: for this price tag and this quality you'll be seriously more comfortable on a lot of rides.
An optional back protector is always a possibility. The connection zipper of the Khao Air seems to be made for a smooth link with the Khao Air pants, and every modern jacket is equipped with reflective material.
This is - in this category - an absolute top-season jacket at a very competitive price.
