This hardshell motorcycle backpack is aerodynamic, overtly sporty and, although it may remind you of a turtle's shell, it is the fast boys and girls who will be attracted to it.
It goes without saying that DAINESE is a sporty brand. The fact that, in addition to a traditional D-Throttle Stealth motorcycle backpack they also developed this D-Mach should come as no surprise to anyone. The hardshell outer shell is what the name implies: a hard outer shell. Cast in one piece. For those who are not used to it: it takes some getting used to. No zips or storage compartments are to be found on the outside. You are like a turtle or you are not.
The advantage is that the hard exterior is stylistically top and the kind of 'superhump' of the D-Mach forms one whole with the wearer. And on top of that, a little water is allowed to fall from the sky as well. If it gets to be too much: you get a full-fledged additional rain cover (red).
It's easy enough to get it out when you know that the zipper - one central zipper over three lengths - is located on the inside of the hard shell. Immediately a new world opens up, because the back side turns out to be a well-constructed organizer, with a key ring, space for a (small, 15") laptop, a camelbag and a number of extra compartments. These are separate from the available space in the hardshell itself. All in all, 22 liters, which - taking into account the aerodynamics and the almost natural fit of the D-Mach Backpack Stealth - is quite remarkable. The separately accessible (zippered) space for your sunglasses and the very practical 'helmet leash’ at the bottom make this D-Mach Backpack Stealth a very practical whole.
A whole that is also good to carry: the back got more padding than many motorbike saddles, so the D-Mach Backpack Stealth leaves nothing to be desired in terms of comfort. And because a tortoise wants to be sure that its shell stays in place: the adjustable chest strap, a belt around the waist and two very comfortable shoulder straps, they are all very adjustable and practical.
A top act. Without a doubt.
