Earlier, SENA delivered a 5S as the updated version, which is where you can also categorise this compact 5R. It is a simplified motor communication system that maintained all ‘necessary’ functions.
The SENA 5R Bluetooth is a communication headset with a two-way HD intercom and smartphone connectivity for music, GPS and taking phone calls. This covers just about the entire range of common operations. The compact 5R uses Bluetooth to connect with other SENA devices, enabling open and handsfree communication over a distance of about 1 kilometer*.

The HD speakers bring a very pleasant sound to your helmet, the integrated LCD screen on the intercom unit is practical to keep track of everything anytime and the Bluetooth 5.1 keeps a constant and steady connection. That connection is ‘limited’ to two persons. For whoever loves chatting to their pillion rider or fellow rider, this is the absolute best!
Operating the SENA 5R is easy with the app or – on the intercom itself – with the plus and minus button. This is an important difference compared to the SENA 5S, which uses a Jog Dial to flip through the menus.
General remark: the world of electronics (that also includes intercoms, smartphones, GPSs, etc) is changing so rapidly that it’s possible for some (older) devices not to be compatible anymore. Unfortunately, the manufacturer cannot provide us with data to know which combinations of intercoms/GPSs/smartphones cause issues. It is recommended to regularly update all your electronics in order to avoid issues as best as you can.
