The Katoomba motorcycle shoes by Segura are more sophisticated than their predecessors (Rufus) but stay faithful to the principle of the textile, ankle-high motorbike shoe with robust rubber sole.
Katoomba means ‘shiny, falling waters’ and is the name of a city in Western Australia, however, we wouldn’t call these motorbike shoes 100% waterproof per se. The exterior – polyester – has been treated with water-repellent agents but ankle-high shoes simply have their limitations when it comes to water.
Apart from that, the Katoomba is still an interesting motorcycle shoe. The basis shows a lot of rubber, to start with the oil-resistant sole that flows into an equally oil-resistant sole over the entire footing. Further, the Katoomba consists of a lot of black canvas (polyester, with a water-resistant layer).
The shaft reaches up to 15 centimetres above the floor (at size 43). Stepping in and out of the Katoomba is not done with laces but by opening the vertical zipper on the inside of the shoe. There is barely a faster way.
What impact protection and safety are concerned, you can count on a reinforcement of the heel as well as the toe, while the robust sole ensures a solid anti-transverse crushing effect. For those of you without an R&D background, this means that your toes, even in less evident circumstances, will usually stay pointed in the right direction. There is no gear lever panel.
Everything is connected with tear-resistant seams, which inspires a lot of confidence.
The higher the fashion and the ‘we-don’t-look-that-much-like-motorbike-shoes’ level, the smaller the chance your shoewear will have a full gear panel. No problem at all on a scooter; on the other hand, the many gear changes will cause quite a lot of wear quickly. Too bad for the shoes, mostly, because ‘wear’ is not mentioned in the warranty conditions anywhere.
Be provident, give yourself a hand – or a foot – and provide your motorcycle shoe or your gear level with an extra layer. We have a number of options in our range.
There is maintenance clothing and then there is clothing maintenance. Good, solid motorcycle clothing is an investment in comfort and personal safety. So invest in its maintenance after your purchase and enjoy your gear for longer.
