Apart from being safe to wear on a bike, these motorcycle boots with classic Chelsea boots attitude are also a fashion statement. Or at least, they can be. Hippies and hoodlums loved them in the sixties and in this Turnstone version of Alpinestars, they are a classic flashback as well as innovative.
Remarkably, the stretching shaft that links the Turnstone motoring boot directly to the Chelsea boots, gets an innovative extra system in the Turnstone to stay perfectly positioned. Nowadays, ‘staying in place’ is a prerequisite to call a motorcycle boot safe. The hippies and hoodlums had other things to worry about half a century ago. Anyway, this system is a hidden, internal lacing system. You ‘operate’ front and back by means of the tabs. You activate the back – which means, you lace the back – while you open up the front. It’s harder to describe it than to actually do it. We’ll stick to the fact that it turns a classic loafer into a full-fledged and safe motorcycle shoe. Timeless aesthetics with state-of-the-ART protection is another way to describe it. Don’t take that boot part too seriously. A high motorcycle shoe is a better way of describing it. Ankle-high, obviously, with a few additional elastic centimeters, nicely finished with an eye for detail.
The cowhide is flexible and soft, which can be said for the Turnstone as a whole. Whoever expects clogs, is in for a disappointment. The sturdy, rubber sole is the most rigid part of the shoe. Whoever is looking for a flexible, enjoyable, smooth motoring shoe, is in the right place. Don’t let first impressions fool you; the Turnstone motorcycle shoe offers plenty of protection.
The flexible ankle hides a couple of protectors and your own ankle is literally supported by the construction itself. Toe and heel are not made from steel, which you feel, but the Turnstone is not a motorcycle shoe to grind the curbs with anyway. The CE-certification, level 1, is adequately sufficient for daily, city, more or less civilized motor rides or commuter rides. Not something you’d combine with a one-piece racing suit, we think. This matches perfectly with classic motorcycle jeans and an equally classic Vespa or café racer. This total picture also shows good weather without too much water. A long walk in the park is not exactly the Turnstone’s cup of tea, which also indicates that they are not big fans of rain.
Walking and riding comfort in the city, that’s what it’s about. Both preferably on the highest possible level. The Turnstone is a classic with a modern twist. A visual eyecatcher with high-level functionality.
The higher the fashion level - and the level of ‘we don’t really look like motorcycle shoes’ -, the smaller the chance your leather shoes have a full-fledged shifting reinforcement. No problem on a scooter but on a motorbike, the multitude of shifting will quickly cause wear and tear. A shame of the leather shoes because this “wear and tear” will not often be incorporated in the warranty conditions.
You’d better take precautions, give yourself a hand or a foot in this case and add an extra layer to your leather motorcycle shoe or your gear lever. There are a number of options available in our range.
