The Manis resembles an insect. Firstly because of its sliding plate structure, secondly because the flexibility of all those plates in relation to each other and the wearer is very impressive and - last but not least - because this really looks like an exoskeleton.
Two wide, elastic shoulder straps and a sturdy, robust and at the same time flexible kidney strap ensure that you put on the Manis almost like a backpack. The transverse chest strap only enhances this feeling. The very versatile (and handy!) adjustment possibilities of all these straps and attachment points mean that you actually have to do very strange things to make the Manis not fit.
The surface that is in contact with your back is padded with foam over the entire surface. In relief, to maintain only the essential contact and otherwise allow lots of ventilation and airflow. The core of the Manis consists of perforated, shock absorbing material. This is the piece that really does the job, as the outer plate structure is effectively a form of external protection.
The entire structure gives way in every direction and its construction in no fewer than six interconnected elements means that you have complete freedom in length, width, forward and backward. ‘Controlled mobility' is the name of the game, and if you were to look up the term in an encyclopedia, we wouldn't be surprised to find a photograph of the Manis as a definition.
