A pair of sneakers that not only offer good protection on the motorcycle, but are also waterproof. This is the DAINESE York D-WP®. Oh, and comfortably lightweight, too.
To say the York D-WP® is primarily a city shoe is both an overstatement and an understatement. You can get away with it in any big city, but don't lose sight of the many other features: the York D-WP® is a waterproof motorcycle shoe that's also phenomenally stylish.
The exterior consists of suede, completed with (significant) shift reinforcement. The result is a hardwearing unit that, both visually and in reality, sneaks a little bit of relief and especially variation into it. It provides the sneaker with style, which really could hardly be further from a 'motorcycle shoe' than it is here. And yet: it's purely aesthetic because DAINESE pays enough attention to toe, heel and - especially - ankles to pass the CE certification (Cat. II - EN 13634) without problems.
Stylish and safe are the last things we need to check off. Waterproof too, while we're at it, because 'D-WP®' refers to the waterproof interior of the York D-WP®. In practice it's an integrated membrane. Breathable. Naturally. Between the mesh lining and the suede outer.
It's an excellent combination.
Add to that the cutout at the Achilles tendon. The white rubber sole that keeps you with both feet on the ground. The elastic element on the heel for extra comfort and a firm feel. The reflective stripe on the heel - although very subtle - is very useful.
The York D-WP® is a lace-up shoe. So no zipper.
The higher the fashion level - and the level of ‘we don’t really look like motorcycle shoes’-, the smaller the chance your leather shoes have a full-fledged shifting reinforcement. No problem on a scooter but on a motorbike, the multitude of shifting will quickly cause wear and tear. A shame of the leather shoes because this “wear and tear” will not often be incorporated in the warranty conditions.
You’d better take precautions, give yourself a hand or a foot in this case and add an extra layer to your leather motorcycle shoe or your gear lever. There are a number of options available in our range.
There is maintenance clothing and then there is clothing maintenance. Good, solid motorcycle clothing is an investment in comfort and personal safety. So invest in its maintenance after your purchase and enjoy your gear for longer. We put the best tips and tricks on this maintenance page.
