The X.33 Canyon Layers is a pretty competitively priced flip-up helmet. With helmet peak. Or a helmet with flip-up features, depending on the angle you look at it. Double homologated, so you can ride it flipped open, and with just about every characteristic of every helmet type on board.
The outer shell is a thermoplastic one and one helmet shell is enough to hold all sizes. Nevertheless, the total weight of 1700 grams is - more or less - within limits. Especially because a number of weight gainers are included as standard. Starting with chin and top ventilation, each equipped with a sturdy slide to open and close. In the same style you will find one at the back, even though GIVI also provided two open air outlets at the bottom. Attention has clearly been paid to a good air circulation in the helmet but the exterior design also has some aerodynamic features.
No weight saving is the sun peak. Although you can easily remove it and go on the road without it. The Canyon Layers can be used as a substitute for any other helmet, depending on which layer you leave on or use. At the front center you will easily find – also with gloves - the click system to flip up the helmet’s chin guard. This goes smoothly and at the very top everything clicks into place. It has to, because the X.33 Canyon Layers has double homologation and is therefore both a full-face and jet helmet, all in one. And together, that makes it a flip-up helmet. With helmet peak. You're still with us, we can feel it.
The visor is transparent and scratch-resistant. It has been fitted with the preparations for the installation of a Pinlock 70 lens, which comes as standard. The Canyon has an integrated sun visor. With your left hand you can operate it in both directions, which doesn't require a lot of skill at all.
The Givi X.33 Canyon Layers makes little effort to conceal its internal reinforcements; even at the back you will clearly see the ends of the metal components. No problem, it suits the design.
Inside, everything feels comfortable. The anti-allergic and removable lining is of high quality. With a wind curtain chin, a wind deflector on the nose (which you can also leave out) and a sturdy chin flap, the X33 guarantees a high dose of noise reduction. Which you can decide to a large extent. The soft chin strap is of course adjustable and the fastener is micrometric.
How to replace the visor or peak is shown in the video below.
For maintenance of this helmet we recommend S100 helmet and visor cleaner for the outside. For cleaning the interior without removing it, you can use S100 helmet interior cleaner. New visors have received a water-repellent treatment. This treatment is less effective after some time. Restore the water-repellent effect with Rain-X anti-rain spray.
Safety above all! Never ride with a scratched or dull visor. Especially at night, scratches or dull visors cause blinding reflections from street lights and headlights of oncoming vehicles. This effect is even more pronounced in rainy weather. It is best to replace a scratched or dull visor as soon as possible. Planning a longer trip? Then don't forget to bring a replacement visor with you. Never ride in the dark with a tinted visor.
